OUR NAME
Why the name "Galilean?" It all has to do with Jesus. Jesus grew
up in the city of Nazareth, in a region known as "Galilee" (Luke
2:39-40). It was by the Sea of Galilee that Jesus called his
first disciples (Mark 1:14-20).
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus taught and healed in Galilee;
and it was on the Sea of Galilee that Jesus calmed the raging
storm (Matthew 8:23-27). So, our symbol (the boat with the cross
of Christ in the center) and our name (Galilean Lutheran Church)
are
statements of faith.
Whether we encounter smooth sailing or stormy seas on our journey
through
life, we follow the Galilean named Jesus, trusting that He is in
the boat with us.
IT’S GOOD TO BE LUTHERAN
We are a people claimed, named, gathered and sent by the Triune
God. This one God comes to us in the Trinity, God the Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit.
We are a community of faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Through Christ alone there is forgiveness of sins, life (now and
eternal) and salvation.
We live in the grace of God through faith in Jesus who died on
the cross and rose for us. It is through grace that we first
experience God’s love for all people. God’s gift of grace saves
us which gives us hope in this life and the promise of eternal
life with God.
We are a Word-and-Sacrament people who gather to hear and study
God’s word. We are welcomed by baptism and fed at the Lord’s
Table.
We are all once and at the same time saint and sinner. Still, we
are all called to be ministers (a priesthood of all believers)
who share the Good News of Jesus to all. We are an evangelical
people who love to tell others about Jesus Christ.
We are an Easter people who live in the cross of Jesus and his
resurrection.
